UK Spa Breaks
We know this isn’t the first time we’ve recommended somewhere remote, peaceful, and perfect for getting away from it all, but we think you'll agree that this week’s spa of the week is a little bit special. Located within 520 acres of unspoilt land on the coast of Scotland, Fairmont St Andrews is about as remote as you can get. It’s also home to two championship golf courses and some utterly breath-taking coastal views. Welcome to our spa of the week…
The spa
We’re not the only ones to regard this 5 star resort as being a bit special. Fairmont St Andrews has attracted all manner of celebrity guests, including Hugh Grant, Samuel L Jackson and Prince William – it’s actually where he first spotted Kate, walking in a (now famous) fashion show. But celebrity fans aside, this cliff-top retreat in the ‘Home of Golf’ boasts scenic surroundings, stunning views of St Andrews and the North Sea, luxury facilities, the odd touch of tartan and one of the most luxurious spas in Scotland.
Treatments and facilities
While the championship golf courses are what bring many to Fairmont St Andrews, if you’re more into afternoon tea than golf tees, you might find the 9, 000 square foot spa is more your thing.
The spa at Fairmont St Andrews is home to no less than 12 beautiful and private treatment rooms, a 16-metre indoor pool, a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. With its soft lighting, luxury furnishings and gentle pipe music, it’s not hard to see why the spa was awarded an impressive 'Five Bubbles' by the Good Spa Guide.
As well as first-class facilities and unparalleled views, the spa also offers a range of treatments that are wholly unique. Using a combination of high-end product houses (Aromatherapy Associates and Kerstin Florian, to name a couple) and local ingredients, the spa at Fairmont St Andrews has created a tempting treatment menu with a regional theme.
Skin lost it’s glow? Try the Scottish Facial Experience, which combines skin analysis, sweet orange and mandarin oil, Scottish oatmeal and highland pine. Or, if you’ve come with a loved one, why not get into the spirit of things and enjoy a Highland Fling? Don’t panic, that’s just what Fairmont St Andrews calls its couples massage and it’s actually a very relaxing side-by-side treatment performed amid the soothing scents of Scotland. No jigging, we promise.
The spa also offers a range of relaxing days and breaks designed to ‘improve your inner and outer health and beauty’. If you happen to be in the St Andrews area and fancy making a night of it, we recommend the One Night Spa Break, which includes an overnight stay in a Fairmont guest room, 25-minute spa treatment, afternoon tea in the Atrium, dinner in La Cucina or The Clubhouse and full use of the spa facilities for £155 per person.
